Desktop / Mid-range or Industrial Printer? We can help you choose the correct labels for your model.
Most thermal transfer printers will fit on a desktop However, if you don't already know, it is important to
determine the printer model otherwise your rolls of labels will not fit or work.
By definition, a desktop printer is small, usually about the size of say a typical shoebox.
In the main they take the smaller label core sizes of 25mm or 38mm, and a roll of labels typically has a maximum outer diameter of 5" occasionally this can be more though.
These are the next family of larger printers. These typically being around the size of say 3-4 stacked shoeboxes; some are bigger and some are smaller. They generally have a 3" or 76mm label core and a roll of labels will typically be up to an 8" outer diameter.
This means that rolls of labels for the larger printers will have many more labels on each roll so less downtime for operators needing to reload consumables. They are ideal printers for medium to fairly high volumes of through-put and are very cost-effective. These tend to be the most widely used printers.
These are the workhorses of the thermal transfer range. They can start fairly low but can vary in price by a few thousand pounds depending on many factors based around the needs of the labelling application. For example, certain larger operations need to print labels literally 24 hours a day. For a printer to be guaranteed to do this it must be industrially rated; it has therefore been built to a very high standard.
Another typical requirement is for printing A4 size labels, often for pallet labelling. These of course are around 8" wide and so they need an 8" width printhead. Again, this is a specific printer to be used for a specific application and our customers tell us what they want to do and we recommend the solution.
If , when you order, you can advise us on the online order form of your printer's make and model number we will
ensure all labels ordered will be ok for use thru your printer.
If we think there may be an anomoly we will contact you to clarify prior to processing your order.
All Thermal Transfer labels provided by us are guaranteed for a minimum period of one-year.
Certain products are guaranteed for longer than this period and if this applies then it is stated on our website.
We have had wide experience in the labelling industry for more than 30 years and we are able to
provide solutions for virtually any application where a labelling solution is required.
The following is some general information which we hope will assist you in determining your label requirements however, if in any doubt, we heartily recommend that you contact us to prior to order to discuss your requirements in detail
so we can offer relevant advice.

We provide a very wide range of materials for almost any label application, from sticking to concrete in an outside environment to labelling boxes in a warehouse or stock room for identification and despatch.
Typical long-life thermal transfer label applications include asset tracking, transportation and logistics, some food products labelling, general pricing, price marking and product coding for EPOS systems etc and many more.
Thermal Transfer Labels
Thermal Transfer Label printing uses more standard materials which require the printed images and text to be transferred to them using a separate thermal ribbon, or ink. Thermal Transfer labels will not print without a carbon ribbon. The ribbon is positioned between the printhead and the label and as a secondary benefit it provides great protection to the printhead as it removes the distinct abrasion that is present when printing in direct thermal mode. This greatly saves wear and tear on printheads and is a great cost saving by reducing the need for replacements. The main benefit for the finished label is that it is not subject to degradation by heat and light and so it can be used confidently for applications which call for labelling long life products.
So far we have mentioned the labels however these will not give the required end results unless used in combination with the correct thermal ribbon; THIS IS CRITICAL!
There are quite a few ribbon types available today but generally the main ones come under the following three ribbon materials:
There are others, like resin-enhanced, and many more that can be used say with special materials, say, plastics. You can use the most expensive material in combination with the most expensive ribbon and the results can be terrible. It is about matching them together.
Fortunately, in the main, the three types mentioned above cover 95% of the combination requirements and we can easily determine the best combination for our customers. Should specials be required then we can and do conduct tests of the material and ribbon to ensure that they are correct for your application by the time you receive the system.
Typical applications for thermal transfer labels are transportation and logistics, archiving and asset tracking.
